Embracing Fun: Zionsville Family Launches Play Cafe Catering to Parents and Children

In the spirit of enjoyment, a Zionsville family introduces a play cafe designed to delight both parents and children.

The Busy Bee: A Haven for Playful Families in Zionsville

Winter in Zionsville just got a whole lot more exciting with the grand opening of The Busy Bee. This newly launched play cafe, situated at 5635 W. 96th St., is not just another indoor playground for children; it's a family-oriented space where both kids and adults can revel in a shared experience.

A Unique Concept for Zionsville Families

Founded by the dynamic couple Kristina and Kevin Lai, The Busy Bee aims to bring a fresh and engaging concept to Zionsville. Unlike any other indoor playground in the area, The Busy Bee places equal emphasis on ensuring both kids and adults have an enjoyable time.

Kristina Lai, sharing her vision, stated, "Our indoor playground is different from others because we’re also focused on the adults having a good experience. We’re not just 100 percent kid-focused. We want the kids to have a great time, but we also want parents to have an equally great time."

A Blend of Fun and Comfort

For a daily admission fee of $15, families can enjoy a range of features, including an indoor play structure, playhouses, a mini road for little drivers, and even a pretend play town where children can explore different careers. But The Busy Bee doesn't forget the adults in the equation—there are comfy couches, worktables, gourmet coffee, and treats from Zionsville Bake Shop to ensure parents can relax while their children play.

Kristina emphasized the flexibility of their admission policy, saying, "Our walk-in daily admission is $15, so if families want to leave, go home for a nap, and return in the afternoon, they can do that. We don’t do time limits unless we’re at capacity."

Membership and Celebrations

To cater to frequent visitors, The Busy Bee offers monthly memberships priced at $48 for families with one child and $68 for families with multiple children. Additionally, play packs with four passes at $50 or eight passes at $95 provide more options for families to enjoy the cafe's offerings.

The Busy Bee isn't just a play destination; it's also a vibrant venue for birthday parties. With three party rooms, reservations are already filling up. Kristina shared, "We’re running about 10 parties a weekend right now, and we expect that to increase because there’s not a ton of party options on this side of town."

Safety and Creativity Combined

Safety is paramount at The Busy Bee. The play structure is designed with zero blind spots, allowing parents to keep a watchful eye on their little ones at all times. The cafe's play area is suitable for children aged 1 to 11 and features imaginative play zones like a pretend town and large building blocks for creative exploration.

From Vision to Reality

For Kristina, the journey from concept to launch has been a decade in the making. As a nurse with four young children, she sought a career that aligned better with her family's schedule. The inspiration for The Busy Bee struck about 10 years ago during a birthday party at a similar venue. "We first had the idea at my niece’s birthday party, just looking around and realizing that the kids were having a blast. However, there was nowhere for parents to sit or any good food to enjoy. That’s how we came up with the coffee bar," she recalled.

Kevin, Kristina's husband, expressed the family's pride in bringing their dream to fruition. "It’s been a long journey getting from conception to launch, and our whole family is so proud to share our dream with our neighbors, friends, and community," he said.

A Beehive of Activity Year-Round

Named "The Busy Bee" to encapsulate the bustling nature of both parents and kids, the play cafe is open year-round, seven days a week. While Kristina is focused on the current venture, she hints at the possibility of expansion in the future, saying, "We are going to wait and see how this goes... So, it’s not off the table, but there are no active plans."
